Suffolk Entrance Thumblatch Sets

For use on entrance doors, these thumblatch sets are forged from heavier stock to a larger dimension than our interior latches. A generous pull allows you to grasp the handle easily, even with a gloved hand. These are complete sets that include a large latch bar, screw mount staple, and a decorative drive catch. For use on doors up to 3” thick.

Hadlyme Entrance Thumblatch Set
Inspiration for this generous latch came from an original, which was forged by a well-known blacksmith in Hadlyme, CT., circa 1810. One of our blacksmiths re-created this design in both a traditional (black) finish and a whitesmithing version. For a substantial entryway this latch is historically appropriate and indicative of early work that would have been commissioned for a large home. The latch comes with an extra large latch bar, screw mount staple and footed drive catch.

Norfolk Entrance Thumblatch Set

The Norfolk thumblatch style was a design that was easily adapted to large- scale production. By the 1830’s, these were manufactured in factories by the thousands. There is, however, plenty of evidence that the earliest Norfolk latches were completely hand-wrought, just as the entrance set offered here. A lift knob on the latch bar generally characterizes Norfolk trim sets.

Our thumblatches and pulls are available in both a "standard" and "heavy gauge" construction. The "heavy gauge" latches are forged from thicker, wider material and are generally used on larger doors.
